About the Work

ParkArts provides summer arts programming to thousands of youth and families in Cleveland's neighborhood parks. LAND studio offers Cleveland communities the opportunity to experience arts and culture through various hands-on projects, including sculpture, painting, drumming, theater, dance and more. Each event results from strong partnerships between our organization, professional artists, art organizations and the community and reflects the unique interests of the target neighborhoods.

How It Started

Hosting arts based programming in Cleveland parks is part of our vision to lead, promote and facilitate creative programs and recreation opportunities for all citizens. By way of ParkArts, LAND studio provides thousands of children and families in Cleveland's neighborhoods with quality programming and exposure to Cleveland's vibrant arts sector. By providing hands-on art activities in partnership with professional artists, we create new experiences and open new avenues of self expression for young Clevelanders who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn the value of art and the impact that it can have on a community. Through our work in neighborhood parks and engagement of those communities, we find that we build ownership, accessibility, openness and value within community gathering spaces.

The Outcome

In 2011, ParkArts served more than 3,000 people by providing FREE hands on programming in ten neighborhood parks.  We will continue to serve  Barkwill Park - located in Slavic Village, Hyacinth Park - located in North Broadway, Clark Field and Lincoln Park- located in Tremont, Fairview Park - located in Ohio City, Lake Pool, Herman Park, Madison Park and Bridgeway - located in Detroit Shoreway and Churchill Park, located in Glenville, with the hope of adding new parks in the future.
