How it Started

In May 2006, Cleveland Public Art, in partnership with Cleveland-based artist Don Harvey created “The Natural Flats: A Field Guide to Habitat in Unexpected Places.”

About the Work

The field guide consists of a self-guided tour of the Flats riverfront district focusing on the evolving natural environment. It features photographic documentation of wild plant life in the Flats by Don Harvey and writings by some of the region's leading naturalists.

Natural Flats encourages readers to explore the Flats, both for its icons of industry, past and present, and its thriving natural environment. The field guide is available for free from Cleveland Public Art.
